GST Collections Rise 9.1% in September 2025 to Rs 1.89 Lakh Crore

GST collection September 2025, reached Rs 1.89 lakh crore, shows a strong growth rate of 9.1% compare to September 2024. After refunds, net GST revenues were Rs 1.60 lakh crore, showing a healthy growth of 5.0% year-on-year. This marks the 9 consecutive months where GST collections have remained above Rs 1.80 lakh crore, demonstrating the continued strength and maturity of India's indirect tax system.

The gross GST collections grew by 9.1% YOY, while net collections increased by 5.0%. The difference reflects higher refund payouts, with total refunds increasing by 40.1% to Rs 28,657 crore in September 2025 compared to Rs 20,453 crore in September 2024.

April-September 2025 Cumulative Performance

The first 6 months of FY 2025-26 have shows a strong momentum with cumulative gross GST collections reaching Rs 11.93 lakh crore, marking a strong 9.8% growth over the same period last year (Rs 10.87 lakh crore). Net collections for April-September 2025 stood at Rs 10.38 lakh crore, representing a healthy 8.3% increase over the corresponding period in 2024-25 (Rs 9.59 lakh crore).

Domestic vs Import Performance

Domestic GST collections grew by 6.8% to Rs 1.36 lakh crore, while import-related GST collections showed impressive growth of 15.6% reaching Rs 52,492 crore. This indicates strong performance in both domestic consumption and international trade activity, with imports showing particularly robust momentum.

Refund Analysis

In September 2025, refunds rose significantly, increasing by 40.1% to Rs 28,657 crore over Rs 20,453 crore in September 2024. The domestic refunds increased significantly by 52.2% and the export refunds through ICEGATE were 26.9% higher. For the period of April to September 2025, cumulative refunds were Rs 1.55 lakh crore, which was an increase of 21.0% compared to Rs 1.28 lakh crore for the same period of the previous year. This increase in refunds is the reason for the difference in the growth rates between gross and net collections.

In September 2025, tax receipts from the GST amounted to Rs 1.89 lakh crore, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 9.1% and continuing to demonstrate the resilience of India's indirect tax system.
