Implications for Jaguar and LandRover: Car companies will be affected by Brexit, EU negotiator says
The EU’s chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier has said he is “strongly opposed” to British Prime Minister Theresa May's proposals on future trade between Britain and the EU. He said the suggestions made by Britain for the trade and customs arrangements post-Brexit are "illegal", and he advised European car manufacturers that they will have to use fewer British-made parts after Brexit. Barnier has warned European manufacturers that the streamlined system of imports and exports between the UK and the rest of Europe would come to an end post Brexit. Jaguar Land Rover had previously informed the British government in July this year that a "bad Brexit" could force it to stop investing in the UK. Barneir's comments are likely to add to those fears. The former French minister also that Brexit would impact the ability of car manufacturers to leverage EU trade agreements with other countries.02-09-2018
