India’s April GST Collections Climb to Rs 2.36 Lakh Crore, 12.6% YoY Surge

GST collection in April 2025 saw a significant surge. The trend shows a strong growth among the domestic revenue and import revenue. The overall GST collection for the month of April 2025 has reached to Rs 2.36 Lakh Crore showcasing a growth of 12.6% rise year on year.

Analysis of April GST Numbers 

GST Collection of April 2025 has shown a strong growth. Lets look at  the data of GST collection by Central,state and others.

  • Central GST: Rs 48,634 Crore 

  • State GST: Rs 59,372 Crore

  • Integrated GST: Rs 1,15,259 Crore 

  • GST cess: Rs 13,451 crore

The net GST collection of April 2025, after giving the refunds is Rs 2.09 lakh crore which showed a growth of 20.68% as compared to previous month. The given numbers highlight a strong trend among the Indian economy and showcases a strength of the India’s tax system.

GST Collection Trends Across States and UTs

The overall GST collections among the states revealed divergent trends across India’s states and Union Territories. Major contributors were Maharashtra (Rs 11,729 crore → Rs 13,177 crore) grew 12%, Tamil Nadu (Rs 4,066 crore → Rs 4,848 crore) 19%, and Karnataka (Rs 4,715 crore → Rs 5,570 crore) 18%, while Andhra Pradesh dipped 1% (Rs1,621 crore → Rs1,611 crore).

Among smaller states and UT's , Lakshadweep saw a surge of 568% (from Rs 0 crore to Rs1 crore), Arunachal Pradesh 62% (Rs 101 crore → Rs163 crore), and Meghalaya 57% (Rs 76 crore → Rs118 crore). Conversely, Jammu and Kashmir (–25%), Kerala (–26%), and Puducherry (–43%) saw notable declines, underscoring striking regional disparities in revenue performance.

April FY26 GST Growth : Domestic and Customs Revenues Climb Significantly

In April FY 2025–26, India’s net GST collections saw a growth across all major components. It was driven by robust domestic demand and steady import duties.

Domestic net revenue climbed from Rs 1,60,496 crore to Rs 1,76,418 crore—a 9.9% increase—driven by CGST rising to Rs 45,401 crore (from Rs 41,131 crore), SGST to Rs 55,525 crore (from Rs 50,266 crore), IGST to Rs 63,650 crore (from Rs 57,069 crore), and CESS to Rs 12,029 crore (from Rs 11,842 crore). 

Customs-derived GST revenue also grew, with net customs collections up 5.2%  to Rs 32,958 crore. Overall, total net GST receipts expanded by 9.1% —from  Rs 1,91,833 crore to Rs 2,09,376 crore—reflecting healthy economic activity and effective tax compliance measures.
