Jio IPO Closes Today: Subscription Highlights, GMP and October 28 Listing
Three days ago, the Jio IPO opened.
Today it closes.
And what happened in between is the kind of story that will be referenced every time someone talks about landmark moments in Indian capital markets.
Here is the full picture
The Numbers First
The Jio Platforms IPO has attracted total demand of approximately ₹3.73 lakh crore, combining anchor investor interest and public subscription bids.
To put that in perspective; the IPO is raising ₹30,213 crore. The demand is more than 12 times that amount.
Overall subscription crossed 5.5 times on day two — October 22. And this is before the final day’s numbers arrive.
The IPO was fully subscribed within 100 minutes of opening on day one, making it the fastest-subscribed mega public issue in Indian history.
Category-wise subscription as of October 22:

The institutional story is the most striking.
Anchor investors alone put in ₹8,109.85 crore with institutional demand for the anchor book reaching ₹2.5 lakh crore more than 30 times the amount available. 212 anchor investors were allotted shares at the upper end of the price band.
Bids worth ₹1.23 lakh crore arrived on day two alone making this the highest-value bid among Indian IPOs that raised more than ₹15,000 crore.
Who Already Owns Jio?
One of the most interesting parts of the Jio story is the investor table that already exists before a single retail share is allotted.
Meta and Google, two of the largest technology companies in the world collectively own 17.71% of Jio Platforms.
These are strategic partners who have spent years building relationships with Jio and whose continued involvement signals a very specific belief about what Jio will become.
The AI infrastructure layer for India. The digital services platform for 448 million subscribers. The 5G enterprise network. The JioFiber home broadband story.
Each of those investors made their decision years ago at much higher implied valuations and are still holding.
What the Subscription Numbers Actually Tell You
A 5.5 times oversubscription is significant. But the composition of that subscription tells a more interesting story than the headline number.
QIBs at 13.29 times, the most sophisticated institutional investors in India, including mutual funds, insurance companies, and foreign portfolio investors are the ones who have done the deepest due diligence. Their conviction at 13 times subscription is the most meaningful endorsement in the entire number.
Retail at 1.54 times subscribed, but not exuberantly. This reflects two things. First, the minimum investment of ₹13,428 is not small for many retail investors. Second, a meaningful portion of retail investors may have been waiting to see day two numbers before applying on day three.
Non-institutional at 5.97 times, HNIs and family offices. Strong conviction at a ticket size that implies careful evaluation rather than FOMO-driven application.
The pattern; institutional conviction very high, retail more measured is actually healthy. It suggests the subscription is driven by genuine valuation analysis rather than pure sentiment.

What Happens After October 23
The subscription window closes today.
Allotment is expected on October 26. Refunds for unsuccessful applicants will be processed on October 27. Shares will be credited to demat accounts on October 27. Listing on BSE & NSE is scheduled for October 28.
Grey market premium as of October 22 was approximately ₹200-₹220 per share implying a listing price of approximately ₹1,319-₹1,339 roughly 18 to 20% above the upper band of ₹1,119.
Grey market premiums are unofficial and can change between now and listing.
What Does This Listing Actually Change?
We covered the business fundamentals in our previous blog, the EBITDA minus capex story,
the Reliance Retail distribution concentration, the valuation premium to Airtel.
Today, the more relevant observation is what this IPO represents beyond the application.
For years; investors who wanted Jio exposure had only one option. Buy Reliance Industries and accept that Jio’s value was buried inside a conglomerate that also includes petrochemicals, retail, new energy, and media.
After October 28, that changes.
Jio Platforms will have its own market price. Its own earnings calls. Its own analyst coverage. Its own shareholder base with clear visibility into the business.
India’s largest telecom company which processes data for 448 million subscribers every day is becoming independently investable for the first time.
Whether you applied for the IPO or not, that is a significant moment in Indian capital markets.

FAQs
Is it too late to apply for the Jio IPO?
Today, October 23 is the last day. Applications must be submitted through your broker before the cut-off time, typically 5:00 PM. After today, the subscription window closes permanently.
What is the expected listing price?
Grey market premium as of October 22 suggests a listing around ₹1,319 to ₹1,339, approximately 18 to 20% above the upper band of ₹1,119. This is unofficial and can change before October 28.
Why was QIB subscription so much higher than retail?
QIBs — mutual funds, insurance companies, foreign portfolio investors have larger ticket sizes and typically do deeper analysis. Their 13.29 times subscription reflects institutional conviction. Retail at 1.54 times reflects a more cautious approach from individual investors which is not necessarily a negative signal.
What happens if I am not allotted shares?
Refunds for unsuccessful retail applicants will be processed on October 27. Shares will be credited to demat accounts on the same day for successful allottees. Listing is October 28.
