Automobile manufacturers dispatched around 3,38,341 vehicles from factories to meet customer demand. In the same period last year, automakers combined sold 332,468 passenger vehicles. Here is the list of the top five car makers' sales in April 2024.
Maruti Suzuki
Maruti Suzuki India sold 1,68,529 units in April, a rise of 4.7% year over year. In the same month last year, it dispatched 1,60,529 units to its dealers. The total domestic passenger vehicle sales were at Rs 1,37,952 units compared to 1,37,952 units in the year-ago period.
Tata Motors
Tata Motors sold 77,521 units last month, compared to 69,599 units in April 2023. Total wholesale sales rose 11.5% year over year. Tata Motors domestic dispatches increased 12% to 76,399 units last month, compared to 68,514 units in April 2023. Total passenger vehicle sales of Tata Motors rose 2% to 47,913 units in April 2024 compared to 47,107 units in April 2023. Total commercial vehicle sales stood at 29,538 units last month, an increase of 31% from 22,492 units in the same period last year.
Mahindra & Mahindra
Mahindra & Mahindra sold 70,471 units in April, up from 13% on a year-on-year basis. The company's total dispatches to its dealers stood at Rs 62, 294 units in April 2023. Mahindra's passenger vehicles sales in the Indian market increased 18% to 41,008 units last month against 34,698 units in the same period last year. Total exports increased 2% to 1,857 units last month from 1,813 units in the year-ago period. The company's Tractor sales rose 2% in April to 37,039 units against 36,405 units in the same period last year.
Hyundai Motors
Hyundai Motor sold 63,701 units in April, a rise of 9.5% year over year. It dispatched 58,201 units in the same period last year. Domestic wholesale witnessed an increase of 1% to 50,201 units from 49,701 a year ago. Exports increased by 59% to 13,500 units last month compared to 8,500 units in April 2023.
Toyota Motors
Toyota Motors sold 20,494 units in the last month, a 32% increase year over year. Toyato's domestic sales accounted for 18,700 units, while exports reached 1,794 units. The growth momentum was sustained despite a week-long maintenance shutdown from April 6 to maintain machinery and equipment to sustain operational efficiencies, productivity, and safety.
