Alstom to set up Rs 20k-cr Bihar unit to make 800 high-power locomotives
French mobility equipment manufacturer Alstom is expecting the first phase of its Rs 20,000 crore electric locomotive manufacturing facility, which will manufacture 800 super high-power locomotives, to be ready by September, this year. The company, which is currently exporting rail solutions to Australia from India, is looking at exports to Middle East, said Bharat Salhotra, Managing Director for the Transport Operations of Alstom in India and South Asia."The factory is under construction and the phase one is expected to be ready by September of the current year. We should be rolling out the first locomotive from the plant by early next year," he said. The first train will be put through a rigorous test for thousands of kilometers and the second and third locomotives will also be prototype, which will undergo a lot of test. The facility, under a joint venture between Alstom and Indian Railway, is coming up in Madhepura, Bihar."Starting from locomotive number four, it will be inducted .25-06-2017
