On August 15th, Infosys announced its third major contract this year, securing a €1.5-billion ($1.6 billion) deal from Liberty Global. The agreement involves constructing and expanding entertainment and connectivity platforms for the digital communications company.

Expanding Horizon Entertainment and Connectivity Systems: A Joint Endeavor

Extending their initial collaboration established in February 2020, Infosys will now be responsible for constructing and managing Liberty Global’s Horizon entertainment and connectivity systems. The company, headquartered in Bengaluru, also intends to integrate its Topaz AI solutions into the project, as stated in the official filing.

Long-Term Vision: Potential for Extended Partnership

The agreement can potentially be prolonged for a maximum of eight years or even further. This could lead to the overall contract value reaching €2.3 billion (approximately $2.5 billion) in the event of an eight-year extension.

Empowering Digital Entertainment: AI at the Core

The enhanced partnership is focused on introducing AI-driven digital entertainment to Liberty Global’s customer base, leveraging Infosys’s Topaz offering. Furthermore, Liberty Global is granting licensing rights for these platforms to Infosys, enabling the digital services provider to deliver top-tier services to emerging operators and new markets beyond the Liberty Global network.

Recent Success: Infosys’s Momentum

This marks Infosys’ third significant agreement unveiled in recent months. In June, the company secured a digital transformation contract with Danske Bank, based in the Nordic region, worth $454 million for five years. Notably, the Liberty Global deal surpasses Infosys’ largest deal in the past three years, a $1.5 billion contract with global energy leader BP for a five-year period, secured in May. These developments coincide with HCL Tech’s announcement of a $2.2 billion agreement with Verizon last week.

CEO’s Outlook: Shaping the Future Together

“We are excited to bring Infosys Topaz to enable transformative AI-first capabilities to complement the cloud-first digital foundation we have laid for Liberty Global using Infosys Cobalt. This will unveil a new chapter in our joint journey of innovation as we reimagine entertainment and the connectivity experience for millions of global consumers,” said Salil Parekh, chief executive at Infosys.

Mutual Benefits: Savings and Transition

This partnership will also lead to annual savings of over €100 million for Liberty Global, encompassing additional savings and technology investments. As part of the arrangement, Infosys will onboard more than 400 employees from Liberty Global. Senior executives and technology teams specialising in product development, technology, service delivery, network and shared operations, as well as security, will transition to the IT giant.
