GST Collections Rise 8.7% in April 2026 to Rs 2.43 Lakh Crore

GST collection April 2026, reached Rs 2.43 lakh crore, shows a strong growth rate of 8.7% compare to April 2025. After refunds, net GST revenues were Rs 2.11 lakh crore, showing a healthy growth of 7.3% year-on-year. This marks the highest-ever monthly GST collection on record, setting a strong tone for the opening month of FY 2026-27 and demonstrating the continued strength and maturity of India’s indirect tax system.

The gross GST collections grew by 8.7% YOY, while net collections increased by 7.3%. The difference reflects higher refund payouts, with total refunds increasing by 19.3% to Rs 31,793 crore in April 2026 compared to Rs 26,647 crore in April 2025.

Domestic vs Import Performance

Domestic GST collections grew by 4.3% to Rs 1.85 lakh crore, while import-related GST collections showed impressive growth of 25.8% reaching Rs 57,580 crore. This indicates strong performance in both domestic consumption and international trade activity, with imports showing particularly robust momentum. Net customs revenue grew even more sharply at 42.9% to Rs 45,784 crore, reflecting the strength of India’s import activity in the month.

Refund Analysis

In April 2026, refunds rose by 19.3% to Rs 31,793 crore over Rs 26,647 crore in April 2025. The domestic refunds increased significantly by 54.6% while the export refunds through ICEGATE were 14.0% lower. This increase in domestic refunds is the reason for the difference in the growth rates between gross and net collections.
