Auto Sales September 2024: TATA Motors, Maruti Suzuki & Hyundai

Major Indian auto manufacturers portrayed mixed performances in their sales during the month of September 2024, as major players reported growth while the others had some setbacks. Here are how the leading automakers performed during the month.

Hero MotoCorp

Hero MotoCorp received the same growth impulse in September 2024, when the company's total sales grew to 637,050 units. It is an impressive 18.75% increase over the same month of the previous year, dominated by motorcycle sales, which demonstrated 21% year-over-year growth. The company had suffered a modest decline in scooter sales but was quick to note that focusing on rural markets and that proper preparations for festivals bode well for the company.

Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki, India's largest carmaker, was on a modest slide in September 2024. Domestic passenger vehicle sales dipped by 3.9% to 144,962 units, while it showed better export performance with a 23.1% increase in sales. Here, the company checks its production and inventory levels since the festive season is near.

Hyundai

Hyundai India has seen a tough September 2024 where total sales took a hit by 10.4% to 64,201 units. Although the numbers were down, they were well-balanced as it saw the SUV segment give 70% of the volume. New and new variants at dealerships represented an appetizing lot. The company is seen to jump the hoop when the customer isn't leaving.

Tata Motors

Tata Motors: The house released the September 2024 car sales report, which printed a year on year decrease of 9% to 41,313 units. However, the lackluster EV sales in September 2024 were owing to policy moves in major markets rather than against the general trend. It appears Tata Motors remains optimistic about prospects of further growth as it also flashes improved registration towards the close of the month.

Mahindra & Mahindra

Mahindra & Mahindra has performed well in its SUV portfolio. The company's sales for the month of September 2024 touched 51,062 units, resulting in an 24% increase. Diversified portfolio of the company showed positives when three-wheelers registered a 27% increase and tractor sales showed steady growth at 2%. This is best reflected in the performance of the SUV segment specifically engineered to realize the strength of the company's market strategy.

Toyota

Toyota Kirloskar Motor witnessed a great uptick of 14% in sales, which means 26,847 units were sold in the month of September 2024. SUV and MPV divisions now account for more than 90% of its total sales. Improvement in operational strategy can be seen through having the third shift, which has toned down waiting periods on popular models and brought improvements to the supply chains as well, which has helped Toyota do well.

Conclusion

Indian auto market is now entering the critical festival season and is showing cautiously optimistic sentiments from manufacturers. Some segments are witnessing challenges temporarily; however, the overall market seems to be healthy enough, underpinned by improved monsoon conditions and strategic customer offerings. The coming months would be a significant one for automakers to balance their levels of inventory stocks with expected demand during the festival season.

A different performance by the manufacturer points to a dynamic auto market for India with SUVs still driving growth in the business while traditional segments undergo transformation; adaptation to changes in consumer preferences and policy environment thus will be major factors shaping future growth paths.
