What is a special pre-open session?

A special pre-open session is a trading window before regular market hours that allows participants to place, modify, and cancel orders for specific types of securities. This session is designed to provide a more orderly process of price discovery for securities that are expected to experience significant changes or high volatility, such as IPOs on their first day of trading, re-listed securities, and stocks undergoing corporate restructuring with derivative contracts on their ex-date.
