Total Income has increased from Rs. 35198.00 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2015 to Rs. 35555.30 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2016.

Apollo Tyres looks to catch up with domestic market leader MRF

MUMBAI: Apollo Tyres, which in recent times focused more on foreign markets by making acquisitions and investing in plants abroad, is modifying that strategy. While the overseas focus remains, it is targeting also to bridge the gap with sector leader MRF in the home market. Even as double-digit growth in commercial vehicle and passenger vehicle tyre segments is likely to sustain, Apollo entered the two-wheeler space the mainstay of MRF as part of its "Building Leadership" strategy. The strategy is aimed at taking the No. 1market position by 2020. Apollo, which is competing neck and neck with MRF in the car and truck tyre space, sees two-wheelers accounting for at least 1.2 million tyres annually by 2018-19. Apollo announced its entry into the two-wheeler tyre segment with contract manufacturing in March of 2016. People in the know said it is considering setting up its own manufacturing unit for two-wheeler radial tyres in its Vadodara facility. The factory is likely to go on stream by 2018. Satish Sharma, president-Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa at Apollo, told ETApollo has transformed from a CV specialist to an all-round player. "I don't want to be in a situation in 2020 when you ask me who is the leader in the market that I will have to define it for you segment wise. If you have to get a resounding yes to building leadership in India, you need to be a full-range player and a meaningful player at that," he said.
