Hilton Worldwide bringing global HR practices to India for better work-life balance, more women workforce
NEW DELHI: US hospitality major Hilton Worldwide is bringing in some of its global HR practices to India, including five days a week work and setting defined targets for boosting the number of women leaders in the group. "Our strategy for India is to bring our Indian hotels up to speed with some of the best practices that we have implemented in other countries," said William Costley, VP, operations, for South East Asia and India at Hilton Worldwide. "We have introduced five days a week work weeks here (and) flexi work for our corporate staff. Work-life balance is fundamental and our industry has a bad reputation for long hours. We hope these policies will also help get more women in the workforce," he said. Hilton employs 2,324 people at its 13 managed hotels in the country. Costley said the company is focusing a lot on women in leadership and has set key targets. "We will do that in India as well and will also launch some India specific initiatives at the end of this year," he said. There are 320 women professionals in Hilton's workforce in the country, which is less than 14 per cent. The company plans to increase this to 20 per cent by 2017. Hilton has 13 women leaders currently. Costley said India's inclusion in the South East Asian region in April has helped Indian talent find better job opportunities. "India being included in South East Asia has worked as a retention strategy," he said.30-08-2016
