Patanjali to invest Rs 500-crore for food processing unit in Madhya Pradesh
BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh government has managed to woo Baba Ramdev-led Patanjali Ayurveda Ltd to set up a Rs 500-crore food processing unit at Dhar district in the state. "We had learnt that Maharashtra government was eager to give 400 acres of land to Patanjali for the food processing project in Nagpur. But our officials did not lose heart...kept wooing (MD) Acharya Balkrishna to come to MP and invest Rs 500 crore in the food processing project," a top official of the Madhya Pradesh Industries Department said. "We have demarcated 400 acres of land to Patanjali Ayurveda in Pithampur Industrial area spread over an area of 7,000 acres in Dhar district and have got an advance of Rs 1 crore from the company," Indore MP Audyogik Kendra Vikas Nigam Managing Director Kumar Purushottam told PTI today. Madhya Pradesh government recently cleared 400 acres of land at Rs 25 lakh per acre to Patanjali Ayurveda at Pithampur, said Madhya Pradesh Trade and Investment Facilitation Corporation Limited Chairman Mohammed Suleman. Tax benefits will be given to the company according to our policies and rules, when it starts production, he said amid whispers that the BJP government in the state has gone out of the way to offer sops to Patanjali. Baba Ramdev's Patanjali leases 1.2 million sq ft for warehousing in 20 cities
NEW DELHI: In a bid to double revenues to Rs 10,000 crore by the end of March 2017 and give stiffer competition to MNC rivals, Patanjali Ayurved has started work on strengthening its distribution network as it prepares for the roll out of the goods and services tax (GST). In the last three months, the Baba Ramdev-backed FMCG firm has leased 1.2 million sq ft of modern warehousing space across 20 top cities and will ramp this up to over 2 million sq ft by end of fiscal, said Acharya Balkrishna, who is Ramdev's partner in the venture and also managing director of the firm. "We reached turnover of around Rs 5,000 crore at March-end and should reach Rs 10,000 crore by fiscal-end," Balkrishna said. "We have reached a certain size. Now, without strong planning, we will not be able to grow further." Part of strong planning is improvement in supply chain. "Till we have warehouses in all states, there will be problems in distribution. We are trying to sort that out quickly. We are strengthening distribution network," he said. Balkrishna's aim is to improve supply across India for which, he said, the only way is to modernize. "We have to move with the times to reach our goal." With the countdown for GST on, the company is doing its supply chain planning to gear up for the new tax.
