by Ritmbarah Arora While Motherson Sumi Systems reported weak Q3 results, GAIL (India) announced a growth of 18% in its net profit in the third quarter result ending December 31, 2019. Motherson Sumi Systems’ profits declined Headquartered in Noida, Motherson Sumi Systems is a part of Motherson Group and is one of the largest manufacturers of wiring harnesses for commercial vehicles and rear-view mirrors for passenger cars in the world. The company is the largest manufacturer of automotive wiring harnesses and mirrors for passenger cars in India. Motherson Sumi Systems reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 340.3 crore for the third quarter ending December 31, 2019, a decline of 38.6% from Rs 554.9 crore in the corresponding quarter, previous year. Total revenue of the company fell to Rs 15,739.4 crore in Q3FY20 from Rs 16,534 crore in the year-ago period. Profit before tax turned down to Rs 441.2 crore as against Rs 794.8 crore in the same quarter, last year while operating profit plummeted to Rs 1,235.8 crore from Rs 1,393.4 crore in Q3FY19. The share price of Motherson Sumi Systems was trading down 6.3% at Rs 125.4 in the stock market post the announcement of the quarter results. Chairman of Motherson Sumi Systems, Chaand Sehgal commented on the third quarter results, “We have intensified our focus on the areas we control. We continue to strengthen our operations at the unit level around the world and bring our greenfield plants to optimum levels. Thanks to the great spirit and efforts of our teams, we are able to support the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in navigating through challenging conditions in certain markets and also in managing our cash flows wisely”. GAIL (India) reported net profit of Rs 1,250.7 crore in the third quarter ending December 31, 2019, a decline of 25.6% from Rs 1,681.2 crore in the year-ago period. Total revenue fell to Rs 18,079.7 crore in Q3FY20 from Rs 20,009 crore in the corresponding quarter, previous year and profit before tax was at Rs 1,871.6 crore as against Rs 2,507.5 crore in Q3FY19. EBITDA rose 32.6% to Rs 2,072.4 crore, while operating margin increased to 11.7% from 8.7% in Q2FY20. Share price of GAIL fell 3.1% post the announcement of the third quarter result in the stock market. Chairman & Managing Director, Dr. Ashutosh Karnatak, GAIL said, “the company had been able to achieve growth in profit in Q3 FY20 despite significant decline in Petrochemicals prices. GAIL is in step with the Government of India’s vision of expanding the share of natural gas to 15% in the energy basket of India by working relentlessly in reshaping the gas economy of the country”. The company declared an interim dividend of Rs 6.4 per share on face value of Rs 10 each, amounting to Rs 2,886.5 crore.
