My mother is my party, no question of resigning, says D K Shivakumar

Karnataka Congress chief D K Shivakumar, who is one of the top contenders for the state chief minister's post, on Tuesday said the party is his mother and there was no question of his resigning from the organisation. Shivakumar is set to meet Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge around 5 pm on Tuesday here to discuss the government formation in the southern state after the party staged a stupendous victory by winning 135 seats out of a total of 224. Soon after reaching Delhi, Shivakumar went straight to his brother D K Suresh's office and residence at Kaveri Apartments. He also had his lunch there. Andhra Pradesh expatriate returnees from Sudan increases to 98: Official

The number of Andhra Pradesh expatriates who returned from strife-torn Sudan safely to India rose to 98, said Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) chief executive P Hemalatha Rani on Friday. Out of the 98, 97 have returned to their hometowns while the remaining one person is expected to reach Vijayawada on Saturday. "Of all the people who landed at airports in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kochi, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad, AP government has returned 63 of them to their hometowns via air and roadways at its own expense," said Venkat S Medapati, president of APNRTS, in a statement shared by the society. Medapati noted that some returnees who did not come through government assistance availed evacuation facility arranged by their employers. SpiceJet to operate more flights to evacuate people under Operation Kaveri

SpiceJet on Monday said it plans to operate more flights from Saudi Arabia to different Indian cities to bring back people evacuated from Sudan under 'Operation Kaveri'. The no-frills airline operated a flight from Jeddah to Kochi on April 30 and brought back 184 Indians under Operation Kaveri. In a release, the carrier said it is in regular touch with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia to coordinate further evacuation efforts. "More evacuation flights from Saudi Arabia to different cities in India are being planned," it said. The airline operates daily flights from Jeddah to Calicut, Delhi and Mumbai. It also has daily services from Riyadh to Delhi. Under 'Operation Kaveri', a total of 2,140 Indians have been brought back from strife-torn Sudan, according to official data. Earlier, SpiceJet helped in evacuating more than 1,600 students under Operation Ganga by operating special flights to Budapest, Kosice and Suceava.
